Site selection using GIS, Simulated Annealing, AHP and EVAMIX approaches under Fuzzy Set Theory: A case study of landfill siting in Blantyre City, Malawi

چکیده
This paper explores the applicability and capability of solving site location problems using an integrated approach that includes the Markov-chain based Simulated Annealing (SA) algorithm, Geographic Information System (GIS), fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Evaluation of Mixed Data (EVAMIX). The novelty of the proposed methodology is its capability to combine the flexibility of fuzzy logic in handling uncertainty with the simplicity, easy implementation and independence offered by simulated annealing in solving non-linear optimization problems, thus providing good site location solutions without losing consistency. In addition, the EVAMIX approach provides complete flexibility in using both quantitative and qualitative criteria. The approach is applied to a multiple objective decision problem of selecting the best location for a new landfill site, which will serve Blantyre City, an urban agglomeration in Malawi. [Tsiko RG. Landfill Site Selection Using Geographic Information System and Fuzzy-AHP Model: A Case Study of Ilam Township, Iran
Introduction: Landfill siting is a difficult, complex, and protracted process, which requires evaluating different criteria. A suitable site should be located to dispose the municipal solid wastes hygienically (sanitary landfill), which is one of the fundamental subjects related to the environmental stability of the human settlements. The aim was to select a suitable waste disposal area using f...
متن کاملSite Selection of Kangan Municipal Solid Waste Landfill by Using a Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and GIS
Given the potential negative environmental impacts linked with wild landfills in the central part of the Kangan Region, there is a significant need to accelerate the development of controlled inter-municipal landfills. The study area with daily production of 92 tons of waste, due to lack of recycling equipment and incorrect locating landfill is faced with numerous environmental, health and soci...
متن کاملUsing boolean and fuzzy logic combined with analytic hierarchy process for hazardous waste landfill site selection: A case study from Hormozgan province, Iran
Hazardous wastes include numerous kinds of discarded chemicals and other wastes generated from industrial, commercial, and institutional activities. These types of waste present immediate or long-term risks to humans, animals, plants, or the environment and therefore require special handling for safe disposal. Landfills that can accept hazardous wastes are excavated or engineered sites where th...

This study recommends a GIS-based (Geographic Information Systems) and multi-criteria evaluation for site selection of gas power plant in Natanz City of Iran. The multi-criteria decision framework integrates legal requirements and physical constraints related to environmental and economic concerns. It also builds a hierarchy model for gas power plant suitability. The methodologies used for site...
